Peak into Art
I just got back from a fun artistic adventure! My mom has a lovely group of women artists who meet once a month to discuss, connect, and create. Today we painted barn quilts!
This one is mine! It’s a small 2 x2 sheet of plywood that was primed then painted with this Art Nouveau poppy design I found in a quilting book. Barn quilts can be seen all over rural areas. People have used them for decades to dress up the exteriors of their homes (and, well barns) all over the U.S. My pattern is inspired by the floral decor of the early 20th century, and is taken from a vintage quilt pattern used during that era.
The quilts were painted with exterior house paints, and will be sealed using a water resistant varnish to ward off moisture and mold. I’m planning to hang mine outside at the new town house we’ll be moving into in less than 2 weeks (!!!!). It’ll adorn our small patio in the back and hang above our beautiful little deck table and chairs that will sit out there.
Barn quilts are a fantastic way to make a beautiful quilt inspired painting without ever touching a sewing machine. And for me that’s a plus as I’ve still yet to fully master mine! Being a part of this group has been so much fun, and I love to feel inspired by this warm circle of energetic and talented women.
What do you do to keep your creative juices flowing?
Bisous!
