The World of the Film

This past weekend, Maddie surprised me with a new TV and a Blu-Ray player! Two things I never thought I’d ever own! I’ve been loving every single second of the films she also surprised me with, among them Tim Burton’s Sweeney Todd and 9.

Let me gush about 9 here for a second. Maddie being the sweet thing that she is got it for me because she said it reminded her of my crochet work… not to mention I just adore everything Tim Burton aside from his most recent Dark Shadows which I have to say broke my heart. 9 is fantastic, from start to finish. It’s visually stunning, the characters are fantastic and it’s adorable yet hauntingly beautiful all at the same time.

9 is the perfect main character! Elijah Wood’s voice certainly helps with his angelic, innocent qualities.

If you haven’t seen this movie, it’s a wonderful dark little fairy tale that made my heart sing! It’s a great film if you love animation, art, any or all things steam punk, and of course if you have young ones of your own to share the adventure with! (Denise over at Veggiewitch, I’m thinking of you!) It’s a great adventure story that also has messages of courage and compassion, not to mention a fantastic and strong female character thrown in. 9 is just about as sweet of a character as one can get, and this film can certainly translate into some animal rights and human rights dialogues as well.

There’s something so magical about the world of the film. The 9‘s world is so grand and so darkly beautiful I found myself wishing I could be in it, as well as inspired by the artful quality the film possesses. I was so excited and touched that she got me this (now one of my absolute favorite films) because it reminded her of my own weird art. I fell in love with each and every character in the movie and now aspire to make little 9-like dolls myself, an idea I’ve been cooking up for some time now. I’m also crafting my very own Etsy page, where I hope to share and sell my art for all to see. So stay tuned for weird little dolls and more art in the days ahead!
