Fashion: Turn to the Left…

Whenever I hear someone say the word “fashion” I automatically think of the David Bowie song of that name…

So here’s the man himself singing his song… oh how I love David Bowie…

I also love his look– from the powder blue suit in “Is There Life on Mars?” to his appearance as the goblin king in Labryrinth and his oh so cool, clean, and cut style in The Man Who Fell to Earth I’m just all over everything he wears as well as his weirdness in general…

Not only is he the goblin king but also the thrift store king with his eclectic funk, pale weirdness and oh so lovely 70′s style patterns.

wearing a favorite summer dress and some newly acquired vegan Toms!

So all of that was just a long and bizarre intro to my musings on the changing of the seasons. Oh how I love fall! From the vegetables to the weather to the smell of crisp leaves falling from warm colored trees… I can’t wait to break out my snuggly cold clothes. Though I love flowy skirts and dresses in the summer, I also love my tights and boots and skinny jeans with a good printed T shirt and some vintage twang.

I can’t wait for long sleeves and leg and arm warmers, for beautiful crisp cool nights that make me pull out my favorite purple plaid vintage coat and for the click clack of my vegan combat boots on the pavement in town. With the change of season and wardrobe, there also come some ethical conundrums for a vegan fashion lover like me!

So many sweaters, scarves, and hats are made of wool! What’s a vegan to do?!

I say, if you have an animal based item that you love dearly, don’t break your heart by parting with it! Just don’t buy any new ones to avoid supporting a system or practice you don’t agree with.

Cold weather is the time for knitting–where can I get vegan based yarns?

I love to shop Etsy for all sorts of vegan wonders including yarns! Lately, I’ve had my eye on some banana fiber that looks simply divine. Another option is perusing your local thrift store for some old sweaters and unwinding them. It’s cheap, ethical, and a great way to recycle, especially if you love that color but the cut? Well… it’s not exactly your size/shape/style…

What about warm and snuggly cold weather socks?

Sock dreams is  great site to look for fantastic and oh so stylish socks! I often find myself pining over the knee socks in all shapes and colors…

Where do I find funky fashion for cheap?

The thrift store! You can find amazing deals, so get to it!

What about fashion inspiration?

For this, I say head on over to Pinterest. Say you like a punky style, you can search it and there are about a zillion different images right at your fingertips. I say make a little fashionista pin board and let your muse run wild!

What’s your favorite part of cold weather fashion fun?

Bisous!

  1. I just bought a denim jacket that I can hardly wait to wear once it cools down. We only need true “winter” clothes in the evenings and not for very long here in Arizona. I am also looking forward to all of the apples!
